Is There Anything Like A Healthy Cake?

Watching what you eat? You may think that healthy cakes aren't a reality, because so many of the ingredients are high in fat and sugar but there are little tricks and substitutions you can make to make cakes more healthy and low in fat.

So what can you do to make cakes healthier? The ingredients commonly used to make a classic cake recipe are flour, sugar, butter and eggs. Butter is the most common fat used in cake making, but it is much higher in saturated fat than, for example, olive oil. So olive oil makes a good substitution for butter.

Have you heard of Veggie cakes. Carrot Cake is a Vegetable cake and it is absolutely healthy and delicious.

Here are a few tips on how to make any cake a little bit healthier:

Healthier Cake Tips

Unsweetened applesauce for sugar

This makes a great substitute for sugar or fat when baking a cake (just don’t try to replace both at the same time).

Whole wheat flour for white flour

Swap white flour for something a bit healthier, such as whole-wheat flour, nut flour, or almond flour White. .In virtually any baked good, replacing white flour with whole wheat can add a whole new dimension of nutrients, flavor, such substitution aids in digestion and can even lower the risk of diabetes and heart disease.

Vanilla for sugar

Cutting sugar in half and adding a teaspoon of vanilla as a replacement can give just as much flavor with significantly fewer calories.

Mashed bananas for fats

One of our favorite substitutes is mashed banana. Just one cup of mashed banana works perfectly in place of 1 cup of butter or oil, and the bananas add nutrients like potassium, fiber, and vitamin B6.

Cut down on fat to save unnecessary calories

For chocolate cake, pureed prunes with ¼ makes another great substitute for butter.
